I love his quote "The cost of being wrong is less than the cost of doing nothing" it's so true , keep on doing something.
That's from Poke the Box book that I recently finished. It's quite inspiring, isn't it? And very true at the same time.
This is one of my favories. It's from the Dip.
"All our successes are the same. All our failures, too. We succeed when we do something remarkable. We fail when we give up too soon. We succeed when we are the best in the world at what we do. We fail when we get distracted by task we don’t have the guts to quit."
That's a really good one Martin, thanks for sharing it with us! Seth is a real legend. I recommend Linchpin to everyone that I get to know. I've read that book many many times and it never fails to amaze and motivate me. Cheers!
Seth's quote to “make a decision... just make one” is good advice for the audience he's likely speaking to, but not for everyone.
I now try to take the opposite approach: to hold back and just observe. To reserve judgement and wait until the answer reveals itself. I learned this tactic while studying Ernest Shackleton and how he kept all 28 of his men alive during the Endurance Expedition.
Shackleton had this way of staying level-headed while everything went to hell. Pressure would be building and his men would be getting restless (or worse) and yet he held back until the REAL situation presented itself.
Anyway, you can tell Shackleton and the book by Alfred Lansing has had a big impact on me. I definitely admire Seth Godin though.
Yes, you said it right in the first sentence. For me, being a part of the audience he writes for, you can't imagine how helpful I find his thoughts on starting and shipping something. This article that I wrote is definitely a modest approach at shipping something valuable. And it works! The Lizard Brain metaphor that he presents in Linchpin, is something that will have an impact on everyone who wishes to change their life for the better. This is not a self-help book but it will surely help you a million times more.
