Amazing post by Chris Winfield. Personally, I consider his tips perfect also for outreach in general and valuable as a guide about how to get successfully in contact with an influencer.

You are spot on Gianluca! Glad you enjoyed the post. Let me clarify a few things here that I mentioned in the comments on Moz: * The title might be a bit restricting for some people because of how we traditionally view 'the press' and hence 'press coverage. Media has changed so much in the last 10 (and especially the last few) years that there is no such thing as traditional press coverage. In some cases your targets might be WSJ or The Times in many cases it might be on influential blogs such as SEOmoz or SEObook. Don't let old thinking box you in. * Many of these tips center around researching, having clear & targeted messaging and building strong relationships. These are also extremely important for things like link building, outreach and the like. At the end of the day, so much of this comes down to constantly trying to connect with new people (whether that's a reporter, blogger, website owner or some other influencer) and trying to helping people out on a constant basis (without expecting something in return). Those two things have helped me so much and I feel that they are pretty universal.

It's interesting to note that after reading this yesterday [ http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2012/02/opinion-salmon-journalists-links/ ] and then reading this prime piece of content today, we can create a strategy that will: 1. Help journalists get the proper citation of important resources. 2. Help SEO/Linkbuilders/Inbounders get their content cited (linked) on news websites. 3. Help ourselves/clients/someone else get a maximized Press Coverage.
