This is cool. I wonder if snippets would be useful on Inbound - I've been mulling the idea of expanding submissions (like when you click on a tweet on a Twitter stream) and pulling in Open Graph data or falling back on meta data...
The masonry UI works really frickin' well with images because it keeps the eye moving. Pictures don't necessarily have straight lines so it works with different sized cards, different sized images.
With text, arguably a wider measure to make it more readible.

This might make the desktop version have around 3 columns? The other benefit of this is it would focus attention on fewer items, but that might negate the whole "at a glance" thing.
Interesting to see though Facebook moving back from a dual-column timeline to a single column, with Google+ moving the other way only yesterday.
