Love this article and the specifics they go into for this experiment! Am not sure, though, this has anything to do with behavioral targeting? Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems quite likely that if you put a tab front and center, someone will click on it. I'd be curious -- if they did this experiment with non-Indian audiences, would they get the same result? They may very well!! Also, obviously, they aren't going to release their real results, but I'd be curious if their actual conversions increased. One thing I've noticed from doing lots of different campaigns over the years is that in certain regions of the world, people tend to click a lot more than in other areas. I've noticed that India is one of these regions with higher CTRs than elsewhere (at least on the campaigns I've done). So, putting a chicklet on a page in front of an audience that tends to do a lot of clicking does not necessarily equal more conversions or success...
