commit: fb200d8 - #595 (2014-04-14 00:44:57 -0400)
Ah yeah, the Burnout Monster. Pacing is so hard - especially when we have so many online shiny things competing for our attention. I find myself wandering over to my iPhone throughout the day and all over the weekend, wandering around my home staring at the warm glow of the screen, turning into an Internet Zombie. It's hard to put it down.
Things I've tried to do to prevent burnout:
- Turn off all popup alerts. They're distracting and make me feel ADD.
- Honor core business hours. Get your stuff done during the hours you set. Be just as serious about not doing work during the non-business hours.
- Exercise 3-4 days per week. I step away and practice martial arts to feel refreshed.
Exercising 3-4 times a week is so big. I've slacked off many times over the last few years but it's the week I force myself to stay active that help you keep your head on straight. An easy approach to this is getting involved in sports or something that requires a commitment every week at a specific time. No excuses or you let down your team, instructor or friends. Good idea!
Great tips! Thanks!
