commit: fb200d8 - #595 (2014-04-14 00:44:57 -0400)
Even in case these negative issues are just coincidence I'm not convinced. IMHO the only use of Google Authorship now is as an identity control mechanism for Google. They can use it to penalize webmasters for example instead of just websites. We've seen cases in the past where SEO agencies have been penalized because of their client sites etc.
So I'd be very cautious with implementing this Google ID. Just because you like to see your face on Google doesn't mean your ego is more important than your SEO.
But... but... pretty faces increase CTR! ;)
No, it can't....unless perhaps you are seriously engaging in black hat, in which case it may be one more tool Google uses to sniff you out. But Authorship doesn't kill webmasters; webmasters kill webmasters ;-)
That's why I'm not as cynical about Authorship as Tad Chef. Could it be used by Google to sniff out spam? Sure, but only spammers need fear that. I continue to believe it will also be used more positively, to promote the most trusted content producers in various subject areas. But anyone thinking that just applying authorship to "whatever" content they've got out there is going to be an automatic benefit for them is seriously fooling themselves.
I'm not cynical, I'm just not naive. I have seen so many legit businesses penalized or killed by regualr updates that I don't trust Google just to go after the black hats.
