Applied Semantic's version of semantic analysis is sometimes cited as being Latent Semantic Indexing, but that's a real mistake. Given Google's movement towards a knowledge base form of extracting and displaying data associated with entities, it's worth taking a closer look at what the CIRCLA technhology actually is. In short, it's a knowledge base. Here's a snippet: "The Applied Semantics Ontology is designed to be exceptionally broad, covering a wide range of subject areas, representing a core of “general knowledge” that is shared by humanity as a whole. While this base of knowledge is sufficient for many applications, in other situations it acts as the foundation for an additional layer of “custom” knowledge."
