This is a topic I'm pretty focused on right now, but defining terms like this almost needs to be a pre-requisite of sorts. I've had several conversations on several topics that could have gone a lot smoother if we'd simply defined terms upfront. You can go down a rabbit hole. Perfect example, you're talking to someone about content marketing or content engineering and they're talking about creating an infographic because they're hot and you can pin them to Pinterest and that drives a lot of traffic. You get the picture.
Totally agree with you, and have been part of a lot of those conversations myself. A lot of people consider content marketing to be just a repository for assets that they've already created. I'm hoping that by the time I finish this serial, I'll have defined "content engineering" (at least how I see it) so that we can all have a collective base to start a discussion.
