I wonder, with Google Places rolled into G+ and Zagat better incorporated, how these screenshots would differ from when we first wrote this article (esp for the "ramen near prospect heights" query) Would be interesting to do this again, cross comparing several search engines.

I personally love DDG's approach to the SERP, it seems as though Google's approach has always been pretty robust information yet not so aesthetically pleasing where as DDG seems to understand the importance and effect of good aesthetics and layout. I would almost put it under a comparison between Windows and OSX, one give far more options and is far more robust yet the other gives all the options you really need and is beautifully executed. I like seeing this competition, hopefully it will keep Google on their toes but I doubt they will be sweating it for a while.

Agreed, from a numbers perspective they won't be sweating it for a while. It's the 'theme'/direction (strategy?) that DDG is taking that they seem to be moving away from that they should be sweating.

    No. That is all.

They think my MFA spam that Google already torched is still the "official site" for a few topics. I think MFA'ers everywhere would love to see them beat Google. They're as easy to game as it gets.

Agree with Ian. I even have some holding pages that rank in the top 3 for which I'd never rank for in Google due to being a very competitive keyword area. In my eyes, DDG right now is just a wet dream for disgruntled SEOs that don't get what they want from Google anymore. DDG is a joke and I keep seeing the same olé screen shots. Yeah, yeah - show us something new. I'll start taking an interest in DDG when I start hearing NORMAL (non-marketing) people talk about DDG.
