...ooh, look at that, 4 of the last incoming submissions here are for the same thing.

So there are Circles of Inbound org members, would a Community on Google Plus be a winner to Hangout about weekly Hottest etc?

I'm always up for something exciting Paul, the circle you created many moons ago attracted some action for a while and quite a few people hooked up for the first time. Are you going to set this up Paul? I've not been online much in the last 12 hours but I heard a few rumours that people were running into a few issues - other than that count me in.

I've refrained for now Wayne as it's a cacophony of invites at the moment on G+. Ultimately the success of a community is down to the members and not the speed of anyone to self label one. Of course the founding member invite would provoke different levels of sign up for sure. I'm just putting out the feelers atm. Yes I think it could fly personally and think not even native improved functions for community here can compete with Hangouts. Also multi-moderators in G+ can be assigned which are public, unlike here.

I have to agree Paul, Ed is doing a fantastic job of improving this site but like you say - it can't compete - do you think that Google may be investing more dollar into + than the guys at inbound are ;). No probs on the feelers, see what the other guys have to say on the subject. Max and David are big on community from what I have been able to ascertain.

I like the your idea, Paul. I thought Google's move to create Communities on G+ is smart, so I'm excited to get involved with this.

Is your idea to create an Inbound.org G+ community, or just a community for those that interact here and on Twitter, like more of a general digital marketing community? If you're thinking about an Inbound.org community we may want to let Ed in on this in case he's got a plan to create an Inbound.org community.

Count me in and let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

yes, I've already back channelled Ed as I don't want to tread on toes or blow out someone else candles or whatever other friday metaphor comes to mind. I think community is much more an undertaking than whipping up a group on a nascent platform, however uncannibalistic enhanced interactions beyond twitter or sporadic threads here do appeal.

Ha Paul - you win comment of the week!

    Like the idea!

I think it's a mistake to say this is the "Inbound.org Community". Our community members are all over the place - part of the interesting challenge for Inbound.org in the long term is how to map ourselves with these interactions all over the web and offline. Stuff like Inbound.org/events, embeddable widgets and email may all be in the pipeline ;)

Google+ Communities is just another tool, just like Inbound.org, Twitter, email and anything else. The community is a much larger, fluid organism that will move wherever's easiest and wherever there's a centre of mass.

I'm wary about pulling the trigger and setting up a Google+ Community for Inbound.org right away. Every new feature or product has the effect of "diluting" attention and thereby minimizing the effectiveness of something like the Inbound.org homepage. The best Inbound.org homepages will come when everyone uses it.

(On a personal side note... I find G+ notifications annoying enough as it is. Unsolicited event notifications and +1's in practically every Google product, and too often by email as well is a total interruption of my workflow. I much prefer the subtler notification systems where I can control opt-in/out. Selfish perhaps, but in building products you tend to build to scratch your own itch, so my personal preference for contributing on G+ is pretty low. That's not to say we wouldn't do something on there, it's just I wouldn't necessarily appreciate the experience).

What would be interesting is finding something Google+ and G+ Communities can do really well that we can't at the moment, and making a dedicated space for that. Weekly hangouts, organized and run on a G+ community and promoted on here for instance? But what's stopping you from going ahead and doing that anyway...? :)

yes I agree, hence the hesitancy and I accept the dilution/cannabilistic issue. That said, Hangout jousting of inbound marketing would be real interesting, be it of weekly hot stuff from here or wider topics. (I recall Rand did a summer WBF on article marketing which got a tonne of thumbs down and made for fascinating near endless amount of comments from both sides.) . And yes, it could be tried in a casual manner by anyone. Personally I quite admire the wayVersus Debates have done stuff in this space.

I would welcome hearing what other lurkers have to say on the subject.

You already have a central place.  I like your line of reasoning.
