"Custom URLs are free for now, but we may start charging a fee for them" So first they take a feature away from Google profiles and then they re-introduce it with big fanfare as a new business model? Also you have to pay in future to get your own name? I already have a brand and a domain name and many businesses have a trademark. That's a bad precedent. Will Google one day charge you to display your name in search results?
Accepted mine today but didn't realise they would become paid at some point.
They "may". Doesn't mean they will. Perhaps they're just covering their backs just in case.
That's what I'm hoping (that their just leaving the door open). I'm wondering if they might at some point hit up just big brands and/or power users for the fee, and offer them some kind of perk or boost along with it to sweeten the pot.
If there's a perk - then I'm all up for it :)
