    Google has always said this -- it's been explicit that links in releases are treated differently.   Of course, Cutts is right about the visibility if it gets in front of the right people, and if you have good links in a release, and a blogger or journalist copies and paste text -- like a quote for a post of their own -- then you earn a link from an authoritative site. Earned, not paid.
