guest blogging... in the situation you, as the author, are the business. The hosting webmaster is your client. Would you start out with a 'what's in it for me?' mentality. Sure, some do/would. They don't get it. If that's you, unlearn and rethink..
Well, guest blog is indeed a great way to increase your websites traffic with your targeted audience..
I am a bit surprised by some of the comments underneath Carson's post -- while some rebuttals were well-founded and interesting, it seemed like a lot of people didn't really read the post before making their points
I feel you Rob, there are people there who went nuts without actually understanding the post - and all Carson can do is "I did not say that...I never said that..." Whew!
I think the core point from the blog, that guest blogging in alone of itself isn't a strategy, is a good point, I just don't think the post is very clear and confused a lot of people into thinking he was saying guest posting isn't worth doing. Maybe a case of the link bait title doing more harm than good.
I noticed Carson seemed to be building up to vent on guest posting as a key SEO strategy for some time. While he did a pretty good job in the article, I think he went a little too far to the other side.
