For the Family Portraits SERP, I think the goal should be #1 on image search, not text/organic search. Also, I would bet that a search term like that has local intent more often than not. Still...very interesting post by the DOC!
I also suggest to use custom location alerts for your core keywords (before they all become not provided) to spot changes in traffic from certain locations. I noticed a keyword I was tracking starting to trigger Places only in a few main cities in the UK and then switching back to non-showing them.
And the traffic for #1 obviously went down!
