Ah wow that's a brilliantly open post and I love the opening paragraph "This isn’t to say we’re innocent. We have a lot of what you’ll see from penalized sites: comment spam, heavy anchor text, Paid Networks, etc". Some of the caching issues highlighted in the post are really concerning if you are doing a link cleanup
