Birthday's coming…
Come February, Inbound.org will be the ripe old age of one! We've been thinking of ideas to celebrate the start of this community and what's been shared between us.
The idea of Yearbook has been discussed - bundling the best submissions so far into a beautifully designed hardcopy or ePub book.
Not only will you be able to have the best our community has to offer packaged in one piece, but you can go and give this to someone - Your boss, your colleagues, your clients, your CMO… - "This is what us Inbound Marketers do. Be impressed." :)
Or if that doesn't work for you, what else would you suggest to celebrate one year of the the Inbound.org community?
How about inbound awards (with embeddable widget)? Like for best submission(s) for each category, most popular blog (that received high amount of votes for each submitted post - SEOmoz will definitely win this one for sure), most discussed entries, etc...
That's a good point actually - in terms of embeddable widgets, why not do like the Ad Age Power 150 (http://adage.com/power150/) and have embeddable badges? I don't know how others would feel, but I'd put a "Top 25 Contributor" badge on my blog.
I wouldn't put a badge on my blog, but I WOULD put a picture of me wearing the championship belt on my blog (see my comment below). Hell, I'd even put a picture of Aleyda or Jason wearing the belt on my blog ;-)
I vote for a kick ass championship belt (a la boxing or wrestling) that will be awarded to this year's best contributor. I'd also like to see this belt delivered live on a Google+ hangout.
And since this is the inaugural year, I think it's only appropriate that Rand deliver this year's belt to the winner. Then, in future years, the previous year's winner can hand deliver the belt to the new winner.
Championship belt is an awesome idea! Would definitely wear that for an entire week at the office if in case I win hahaha.
Recognizing the best content as well as content hubs in the industry (that has been voted by the community) is also a great way to inspire more people in our community to create more useful stuff (this will pretty much replace the old SEMMY's awards), but yeah, I think the community needs it more than ever.
Nice idea. We've been thinking about a 'Hot, Incoming, All Time' for blogs (i.e. individual domains). That could be a really neat idea to have badges.
Not so sure on SEOmoz... most people tend to have seen their stuff already so whilst they do well on submissions, they tend not to get the ridiculous numbers of upvotes the better performers do. Inbound.org's user behaviour bias' towards the "awesome thing I wouldn't have seen otherwise". Which could make rankings like that really interesting!
That came aorund fast! An award for best post/best contributor etc would be cool.
Champagne for everyone!
I have just checked my bank balance.... tap water for everyone!
tap water... ouch seems like Christmas was not good for your pocket :p
The hardback book is a contender idea, Quora just released one and I've already sent it to my Kindle.
