Bah, this article was just fluff. Could have been summarized with: Create a sitemap, decrease your site's latency, add new content.
It seems like loading speed is good to increase crawling too.
Agreed, I would have loved to see something more in-depth - HOW to do all of those things, perhaps with tools/techniques new or different.
