Great article, I would like to emphasize only having one or maybe two calls-to-action on a page. Sometimes you see 3 or 4 main calls-to-action that all compete for attention. If you're going to do two CTAs, I would recommend mixing the formats. For example, one traditional big 'ol call-to-action (like the ones in this article) and the other could be an enter-your-email newsletter signup form or a video/screencast.
This is a good checklist for Calls to Action. The one that should be added to this list is as follows: Include a risk reversal, testimonial, or other form of social proof right near the call to action. As an example, you'll see many software as a service companies include something like "30-day money-back guarantee" right under their call to action. Or they may say something like "One payment. Lifetime access." Or as I do on my site, I include a testimonial from someone that reinforces the reason why people should subscribe to my blog. Other than that, great article.
Yeah, that's the kind of post I want to see here. Let's be honest, we all know most of the SEO postings that are popular here, they are written for a small group of people who obsess about SEO. It's other topics like UX, CRO, content etc. we have to care about more in the future.
