Excellent resource Nick. Sadly by now most transactional queries are monopolized by Google ads and paid inclusion vertical search results (Google shopping for example). There you rarely see organic results above the fold and when you see them it's Wikipedia, Amazon, Ebay or another big brand. So us petty optimizers end up fighting for the long tail or the informational queries, both ways can be lucrative but are not easy to follow. IMHO you should warn your readers about the current situation.
@Ian - No kidding :) @Rob - Thanks for the opportunity to get this up there. @Tad - I completely agree Tad, and really enjoyed your post on why you will be blocking Google from your site. I like your idea to warn readers about this... would make a good post :)
