Although I love plugins like this (I use Yoast and W3 Cache on a lot of sites), I wonder if plugins like these end up detracting from newer SEOs learning how to actually do the things these plugins do for them. The purpose of these tools are to obviously provide a more efficient way to get certain tasks done, and this may be great for non-SEO. However, as we continue to build out technology like this, which takes out the some of the leg work of what SEO consulting provides, will the demand drop for SEO services? Has it already?
I think you absolutely have a valid point. I see SOOO many people using Yoast's SEO plugin thinking they can just turn it on and magically have it "do SEO" for them. Definitely agree to that point, can make people at little lazy and not learn the core concepts. To the contrary though about SEO services, I've (personally anyway) been seeing the exact opposite. What I am finding is; people that try to do it themselves - either fail, get frustrated, or realize they don't have the time - so they seek someone who really knows how to setup WordPress correctly - thus work for me and other consultants who know WordPress well. Doesn't really take legwork out, just changes the legwork IMHO. Thanks though, awesome comment to reflect on!!
Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I don't really know how it affects SEO services, which is why I was reflecting on it. So I'm glad to hear someone else's opinion on the matter and glad to see the opposite given your experience. I guess a lot of it goes hand in hand with the fact that SEO is ever changing. We are always adapting, whether it's to algorithm changes, or maybe something like this, our ability to adapt makes us valuable. Thanks for giving some feedback Dan!
Thanks for sharing this plugin. It can be useful for someone like me who isn't very good with HTML (something I'm working on, but in the meantime this can definitely come in handy).
Great discussion, y'all. We hope those who use this plugin will learn a bit about the "why" behind microdata, but it's still a little tedious to add all the schemas regardless of skill level. Meanwhile, we're already planning upgrades for the plugin, so let us know if you have feature suggestions.
