commit: 6b2ca8a - #414 (2014-03-05 12:54:44 -0500)
Think a lot of SEO's have been here in the past. It seems to be even worse with clients that pay a lower monthly fee...
This is on the front page of inbound ? Really ? Ok then.
I don't care how bad things get with a client I would NEVER do this. The only point that people are going to take away from this post is "don't work with this designer, he will slander me."
Everyone had been ripped off, some of us WAY worse than this guy (me included) but there are so many other ways to deal with this including small claims court, collections, etc.
Nothing burns worse than being stiffed for the hard work that you put in. When that happens I just take it as a new learning tool and an opportunity for growth.
Wait what? I'd rather press the issue it and get paid instead of wondering if every new client is gonna shaft me. If one client gets away with not paying you, how many of his buddies do you think he told about you being a pushover?
If you read the comments its clear that this guy stiffed tons of designers, developers, and marketers for thousands of dollars. Yet people like Barry still wound up working with him. Why? Because each person tried to handle it quietly the next victim was not warned.
We bill in advance to avoid this issue. If we have to do web design, we bill 50% in advance and 50% when they sign off on the artwork before a single line of code is written.
"Learning tools" and "growth opportunities" don't put food on the table. Look at it this way, that client stole time from you. Time you will NEVER get back.
