Yeah, Google is infamous for exploiting "permanent temps" and sacking them on short notice. They fired 10k at once a few years ago when the banking crisis hit. Of course they don't hire full time for the dirty work. The Google quality raters aren't employees either.

I couldn't imagine doing a job like that at all. Not to mention wanting to do it for more than a year. What do you put on your resume after you stop a job like that? WOW!

    1) What did he think he'd be doing, and why did he continue? Certainly I would hope for more emotional/organizational support, but he wasn't forced to work. 2) A Rorschach test? :(

Seems to me that he was expecting (hoping) to be hired full time. Also, even if a job is bad, not everyone has the financial means to leave without something already in place.

What I mean is that I wish I could ask the author these questions. He was hoping, yes. I understand and empathize, as someone very close to me is in a nearly-identical situation. I feel sorry for anyone who works a hard job, but immediately jumping to blame isn't reasonable. Also, Rorschach tests suck.

Imagine waking up and going to sleep with all those atrocities playing in your head. It's like having a local installation of the dark side of 4chan inside your brain. It's just messed up.
