As a man who cannot grow a goatee and does not own a chequered flannel shirt, I share your pain.
Some of these comments are definitely uncalled for, however, I think in general when you have a 'vote your favorite _____' there's going to be bitterness and accusations of leaving certain deserving people out, and that's true for either gender. On the whole, search industry types seem to be pretty cliquey with speaker/conference circuits as well, and I don't think that helps.
On the whole, I agree women are still sadly underrepresented in anything that touches tech, and often times have to put up with unfair amounts of attention/bullshit in order to 'break in' compared to guys.
SEO female feminist, super great.
Igor, at my age I'm beyond being a feminist. I burned my bra a long time ago and haven't looked back. Today, I'm rejoicing the new women in our industry. It's brilliant really. :)
