When I decided to leave my job as in-house marketing director to join an SEO agency, a fairly well-known PR person told me I was going to ruin my career and reputation because SEO is a "scam". I never believed that, but reading this post is just a great reminder that the SEO world is filled with immensely talented and creative problem-solvers who tremendous add value, not take it away.
Seconded, David!
Hehe, I remember Nick's adult example, including the doctor's "name." I thought it was a genius idea (although pretty damn crazy too - although it worked, so who am I to judge eh?)
Best part for me was reading all these responses one by one as they came in last week... Blows you away when you realize you're surrounded by a bunch of creative studs.
Flattery goes a long way ;)
Honestly not trying to. I think the responses speak for themselves. If I didn't genuinely think they were great & creative responses, I don't think this post would have gotten the traction that it got.
I was afraid mine was a little over the top, but after reading every single one of these, all I can say is, I need to get more creative.
Hahaha. I did about the same. Started reading some of these and thought mine was a bit too generic. :)
Still, each one has its own place. There is a little something for everyone in this post.
Bill, yours was one of my favorites. Probably one that most of the rest of us wouldn't fess up to, either, but that's how many industries really work, so can't pretend like it doesn't happen all of the time.
Also - for the 40 who've upvoted at this point, just updated the post with 4 new responses. Will be adding more because of some late responders, so check back when you can.
I am guilty of being one of these late responders, my bad Jon.
Random thought: For posts like this it would be cool if each idea had it's own permalink. I think that would facilitate discussion really well on Twitter as ppl like to discuss the individual strategies.
Done. Click on each name to get the permalink URL.
You're a beast.
I love Nick's example. I was actually going to give that example (I am a late responder) as I read that before and it always stuck with me as a really creative way to get links for a really difficult site.
Hey Kieran just for the record I did some digging and believe the original idea was the brainchild of Peter van der Graaf, that dude is smart :)
Just awesome, thanks for the great read.
Great post Jon. I'm honored to be included. I wish I could share a couple of others ;)
Great post, awesome!!! post are worth reading.
This is honestly one of my favourite posts of the year. I've only had time to read about 20 of the responses so far, but they've all been fantastic. I'll be reading the rest tonight, that's for sure!
Best link building related post of the year, by far!
These are all great. I had actually bookmarked this a little while ago and just stumbled back across this. Great work!
