This should have a zillion upvotes. Ross succinctly lays out a guide for transition. No fluff, no crap. Can't believe more aren't hopping all over this with excitement.
Thanks Joel, it's a long post, so that might turnoff some. You partially inspired this post as I heard you loud and clear talking about the lack of real suggestions/advice about changing to a content strategy.

This post is awesome, Ross. I think you give some great thoughts on MVPs and getting wins, while not completely transitioning away from stuff that is working (but may not forever). It makes me think of Tom Critchlow's talk from Linklove (mediocre to good) where the case study didn't stop link buying straight away, but transitioned away and is now whitehat and winning.
Boom, yup I thought of Tom's talk as well when writing this. It is not good advice to just say "stop and do this, now". It has to be a steady, slow transition. Abandoning completely is not the right answer.
A long post, but definitely worth the read. I thought this was very well laid out and easy to follow
