Disappointed my classic "3 Ways Jimmy Carr's Tax Avoidance Apology Can Make You Better At SEO" didn't make the cut.

Still better than that Twilight article I read few days back (I think it got removed)!!

  • Steve Morgan   Nov 23 2012   Flag

    It did (sadly).

On that alone, I may have to do a follow up, Iain. :-)

It's certainly a good pick and mix list when deciding what metaphors you can use to explain what you do when speaking to boring wankers at parties. Could be made into a party game for sure!

What Inbound.org Taught Me About SE... oh... wait.

  • Adam Lundquist   Nov 23 2012   Flag

I like the mixing of metaphors. It makes learning way more fun

Thank you for giving me inspiration to complete my post "How SEOs are like Financial Advisors" (just posted on Inbond.org :)

  • Richard Falconer   Nov 24 2012   Flag

Do it, Federico. I'd love to read that :-)

Hope to deserve a space in your next list :-)

LOL, expecting a completely different article... Had a good laugh though!

I don't see a problem with such type of posts. As SEO is pretty abnstract for 99,9% of the population you need some straightforward comparisons to make it palpable.

  • Richard Falconer   Nov 24 2012   Flag

You are absolutely right, there's not necessarily anything wrong with using titles like this when backed up with a decent metaphor. I didn't read them all, so it's possible some of the links have that. Don't take it too seriously, it's not intended that way.

RULE #3 - DON'T (JUST) SUBMIT YOUR OWN STUFF
Okays, sometimes you write a jaw-droppingly awesome piece and just have to submit it. That's cool, if it's the exception and it really adds to the community. But please don't just post your own stuff (if it's good, then other people will find and submit it). Besides, we'd love to see and share what you're finding interesting. Most of the time it's not our own stuff.

I'm guilty of this myself. My presentation on web site performance tips starts out with at least a dozen slides about how SEO is like Battlestar Galactica. But to be fair, it really is! ;)

Haha I love the first link to http://shitbound.org/!

You seemed to have forgotten this gem....  What Matthew McConaughey's Abs Teach You About SEO

  • Federico Sasso   Nov 26 2012   Flag

Emma, I guess there is some weird char in the URL you posted, it returns an error, but here it is: http://www.352media.com/blog/What-Matthew-McConaugheys-Abs-Teach-You-About-SEO.aspx

    Woops, thanks Federico.

Apologies to anyone upset that I submitted my own content. I actually didn't realise that was a rule, hence I've made no effort to hide the fact. It's stayed at or near the top for a few days, presumably on merit so no real harm done, I'm sure.

Ironically some of the post Richard refers to are themselves parodies of the genre...
