I think the absolute most important thing when emailing someone is to spend a few minutes getting to know their personality. I think Rand's example email is perfectly tailored for someone with his personality (a huge hat tip to whomever wrote that) --
Spend a few minutes on each contact figuring out what makes them tick and then go from there. No boilerplate emails -- sure it takes a heck of a lot longer, but I'm pretty convinced the overall conversion rate is much higher.
It was about time for someone to educate people on how to email corectly. I am using the spam button way to often.
