Let me start by saying that I like any article where someone takes a stance and defends it with logic. I disagreed with some of his points and think that he used some extreme examples to make a point. What I disagree with most is his point of fabricating similiarities with two dissimilar items being a bad thing. I like the creativity involved with articles such as What Jersey Shore Can Teach SEOs About Outreach and it calls to me to click on it. His writing style is excellent and I hope this inspires debate. I am on the side of continuing this trend as long as it is real. If you don't see real similiarities don't write the article.
I agree with you, Adam. We see so many offenders because we've seen so many "Top 10 Ways to Generate Blog Post Ideas" that have "take a hot topic that everyone's talking about and relate it to your industry" as one of the ideas. I've seen it countless times. I've even had some marketers suggest it to my face.
I get it, but really, we're seeing too much stretching. I'm not going to revoke a Blogger License just because they have a comparison post, but I want to see more thoughtful, self-effacing, and revealing content to make up for the superficial approach.

My reasoning behind writing this was intended to allow me to vent. As with most rants, there are never many positive takeaways and my sentiments probably didn't get conveyed as well as I would normally like..
I believe you have summed up my own personal feelings toward this subject quite well though and I wanted you to know that. I honestly don't mind if someone writes a comparison post that uses a creative analogy to provide decent advice. Even satire I can swallow. What bothers me is when people "stretch" the comparison while regurgitating the same exact material. It has been happening all too often.
Agree or disagree with my points from my post. I really just want to encourage those interested in writing to be more creative and to provide the most value to the communities and audiences they write for. Rants aren't really a proper way go about that, but as I mentioned above it was intended to allow me to vent. Although, I did attempt to add a touch of humor to the post with the "Raising Awareness" bit, but I don't that interested many people. :)
