In short (and great news) - No, there will be no paid ads on Google+
Elegantly articulated Mark. Yet the parodoxical message is that a pure Inbound marketer may thus benefit from wisely using Adwords in 2013± and perhaps that revives the purity and sustainability argument of the 'Inbound' model. If this becomes a pragmatic form of remarketing then so be it. I am in.
After some further conversation and reflection, I think I would've titled this share "Why I'm Certain There Won't Be Paid Ads on Google+ for a Long, Long Time." One should never say "never." But I do think for the reasons stated in my post G+ can get by for a long time without the pressure to display ads.
I guess the "long, long time" also depends on how long it is going to take them to substantially increase their user base. Look at twitter, for instance: they didn't start monetizing it until they reached a large, loyal critical mass...
They will monetize G+, of course they will... its Google for christ sake.
Gareth, did you even read my article. They already have.
