The never ending debate. What does my job entail? What should my job be called?
My take: Find a company or clients that let you work on the projects you enjoy the most. Call yourself whatever it takes to get hired or stay employeed. My clients couldn't care less if I changed my title/branding from SEO consultant to Inbound Marketer to Digital Marketer. If I deliver results and am enjoyable to work with, they'll keep working with me.
For what it's worth, we have similar debates in PR. The traditionalists that just want things to be like they used to and focus only on media relations and the new crew that's adopted content, social and SEO. Leaders embraced it early on, the rest are being forced down the path kicking and screaming.
