Heuristics that Google might follow when filtering posts out of Google Blog Search (and a hint of sentiment analysis, too). First granted Google patent I've seen to use the word "splog."
I liked this - the tactics they use to ID "crap" might be applicable on the content/site/strategy side of things, too.
It's worth noting that links in the bottom part of the post equal spam according to this. It's actually a usability best practice to link out at the bottom not on top or in the middle of the text.
Looks like it could really crack down on "splogs" (erm, not sure about this term, sounds a tad wrong!) - concerned about the links in the post (though wondering if external links to authority sites, rather than internal links to promotional pages, will help), guess we'll have to test numbers of links and their positioning inside the content... oh and if a blog post has zero incoming links then Google would have to allow time (how much time???) to allow links to develop to it...
