^^This wins the internet today.
Indubitably.
You call that crappy marketing? lol. Can I downvote this?
This is white hat SEO outing.
I think at some point in time, we're all going to try a tactic or strategy that may seem cruddy or unethical but at least we'll be able to say "Well, now I want to take a shower. And it didn't even work!" We tried, we learned, and we moved onto better and less scummy tactics. At least David doesn't deny it!
I think the self-outer is missing the point or hiding behind safe outing. The outing in question is about companies that are violating Google's TOS, not doing bad marketing.
The point of my post is about intent. And about violating the Marketer's TOS. I qualified the stuff highlighted in my post as crappy marketing because the intent was all wrong. As a marketer I'm at the point where I want to earn attention and trust, and not buy my way there. Reason being because that type of marketing approach is where long-term viability and sustainability is born. I view the outing posts the same way I view posts that criticize or belittle companies/brands. I run a marketing dept. and I have few rules for my team, but one of them is to never ever talk bad or criticize our competitors. Time and opportunity should be spent building trust through marketing, not pointing flaws and shortcomings (my opinion).
