This article seems to be describing bad guest blogging strategies, not content marketing (which happens on one's own site). Feels mistitled and mischaracterized, maybe for the sensationalism?
Yeah, happens a lot here too. With every hype such sheep follow. Google will curb guest posting soon.
I wonder how much damage seo'ers are going to do to content marketing. Here we have someone bashing bad content marketing with a clear lack of understanding what content marketing is. It's clear there is going to be a mass influx into content marketing now, like it didn't exist before the penguin.
Do people just not understand the concept of mutual benefit?
We're getting a pretty unambiguous message from Google webspam on content - be relevant or shut up. Suspect the easiest way to penalize this is count the share of article and link topics for a site, probably using some type of topic heirarchy. If the site has a diverse and unrelated scatter of topics - particularly if none of the topics have any real depth about them, google slap! We already have a weak form of this with social mention expectations (junk content doesn't get much real social mentions)...
