commit: 6b2ca8a - #414 (2014-03-05 12:54:44 -0500)
Maybe have a "For You" filter as one of the default filters (alongside "Hottest, Incoming and AllTime") so that users can control when suggested items are fed to them, instead of delivering it automatically.
I think that's a fine suggestion Eric. I understand the paradox that marketers least like personalisation, but admit it's benefits. Maybe, as Alistair mentions below, there isn't enough diversity of recommendations just yet.
Mmmh, I am scared it would disrupt the normal user experience...
We'd have to be pretty sophisticated. Are you thinking of something Reddit-style?
I prefer an unbiased experienced.
I'd be interested in see what it might produce but I think it'd important to have a view without the personalisation.
The other thing that might make the idea less useful is based on the 2012 year statistics , it showed that there was a lot of activity around certain categorises. That suggests that the majority of users on Inbound are probably going to have similar views of the personalisation, as there isn't enough diversity. Maybe Ed can provide some detail about the overlap of up votes by post/category and so forth to understand if the personalisation is actually worth the development effort.
