TL;DR: We're experimenting with "Ask Me Anything" threads on Inbound.org. Rand's up first today - look out for the official thread later :)
Okay, so the idea came from Reddit, and folks have mentioned it in this community already. They have an awesome community with many awesome??? ideas???. Redditers, we salute you. Now, down to business...
I love interview sites like Mixergy and the many interviews the community posts, but it's waaaay more cool when you get to ask the questions :)
"Ask Me Anything" on Inbound.org is a discussion-thread where an interviewee will answer any questions posed by the community for one day.
First up, Rand Fishkin, who has kindly given up time today (from 4:30pm GMT, 11:30am EST and 8:30am PST). And yes, you can ask *anything*.
But this is an experiment*, and if there's no real conversation (i.e. boring questions) or it goes so off-topic it's irrelevant (in the not-so-fun way), we won't run them again.
What I'm hoping is you guys all dive in, ask intelligent questions, get an awesome discussion going and tell your friends about it. If that happens, we'll definitely look to running more … especially with interesting people who aren't active members on Inbound.org who should be.
Potential for awesomeness: Pretty. Damn. High. (I'd love to have the Head of Content Strategy at Redbull on Inbound.org!)
?
*Experiment implies this has some rigorous way of measuring success. It doesn't. We'll be going on gut feel. The result of today will either "feel right" or won't.
And oh boy, am I sorry about the formatting. We'll get it fixed!
Yo man, thought I'd mention this in here instead of the other thread. Is Rand actually expected to answer all those questions? Maybe it might be worth adding a disclaimer that upvoted questions will be answered?
Hence the "experiment". You're right. It's ridiculous (but a nice problem to have). Whilst Rand/interviews should be able to pick questions to answer, an indication of how important the question is to the community could be given by upvotes.
I'll write up a debrief!
Reddit has published some interesting stuff about their comment algorithm, which would be worth looking into. After the AMA today, it's apparent that good questions will be neglected in favor of "fast" questions.
Sounds like a great idea Ed. There's quite a few industry Twitter chats and Hangouts that go down well so I don't see why this wouldn't work also.
I expect this to be quite entertaining (and interesting!)

I'm excited for it! Will post here in 20 mins :-)
Why not? Every beginning has a lot of comprehensions at the start. But application and engagement makes it go up the clouds. I expect the same for it too. And i must say- nice conceptualization, looking forward to more of it.
Rand, I'm from Brazil and a huge fan. If you could change anything on Google (the way it works indexing/crawling), what would you do? In other words: are you happy with the way things are in SEO market or SEO World?
Hi Diego - the thread for Rand's right here: http://www.inbound.org/articles/view/i-am-rand-fishkin-seomoz-founder-ceo-ask-me-anything. This is the announcement page :)
This is an awesome idea and the next step of evolution toward this becoming THE most beneficial site for inbound marketers. Well done Rand and Ed. I've publicized this to my 30K followers on Google+ as well as to several active inbound-related communities there.
Loved it Ed, was really fun to watch.
As a shameless AMA request: Wil Reynolds - I'm getting a serious man-crush on that guy.
I know he's chocked this week, them travelling but I might be able to reach out when he's back.
Here's hoping, will be great to ask him about his wife's cause - all the best to them.
Ed - I had serious difficulties with following the AMA on my phone. Slow to load; nested replies so narrow they couldn't be read properly; login taking me off-page so it had to re-load the whole thing; no obvious way to direct link to a specific comment.
If those things were tidied up it would be a much better experience, IMO. Content was great and thanks to you and Rand for putting the show on, and to the community for the quality of their questions.
