Which one do you attend and why? And what's the best thing you've learned at a conference? What was the best connection you ever made with someone in the industry?
MozCon is, hands down, my all-time favorite SEO conference. The caliber of the speakers is amazing (though there are other conferences like Link/SearchLove that are on par). The amount of thought and effort that goes into making sure the conference is an unforgettable experience is incredibly impressive and unmatched (IMO). I love the single-track, keynote format since I think it makes sure everyone gets to see one great speaker/topic and has this cool shared experience that makes for great conversations later. Also, MozCon has the best vegan food of any conference I've ever been to (plus, they ordered sriracha after I suggested it!). I could go on and on...
MozCon as well. Networking was fantastic. I have yet to attend a PubCon or SMX.
Mozcon might have been the best conference I've ever been to, period. Incredible amount of information, and great networking. The Mozcrawls killed about 30% of the brain cells involved in the learning, but it was still fantastic.
MozCon, it just has the best value in terms of length, high quality speakers etc. Although I have yet to attend a PubCon or SearchLove although that will change in a couple of months. I have watched a bunch of SearchLove videos and they are absolutely amazing, so I'm sure that would also be killer if you are located to closer to one of them.
It would be to hard to say what the best thing I learned at MozCon was or what the best connection was. I met a lot of amazing people and learned so many things that I am still processing lots of them. Richard Baxter always blows my mind with amazingly technical inbound marketing tactics.
Search Marketing Expo conferences, (SMX East 2013 coming to NYC in October) gives attendees a chance to mix and mingle with the best in the industry! The sessions are held by industry leaders where they share their insights to SEO, SEM, PPC and social media marketing tactics! SMX is a different type of conference, without the salesy pitches you may normally expect.
Thanks for all the answers! I wonder if Mozcon is any good...
How are there now two discussions with the exact same title on the front page?
The other is about non-seo conferences.
Oops. Missed that three- letter prefix. Never mind!
Honestly, it would depend on the agenda and what was relevant to me. The same conference could be really meaningful for me one year, and just so-so the next. I work for Moz, so I'll withdraw myself from voting for MozCon. I've been to SES SF/SJ, SMX West/East/Advanced, Pubcon Vegas, and some minor conferences.
SMX is my favorite conference series of those three main players. As an attendee, I just feel better taken care of, with more chances to learn and network. There is ample time between sessions to take a quick break, get from one end of the conference area to the other, grab a snack, etc. The food is good. Physical setup is good, with tables and electrical outlets most times for at least some of the attendees.
However, I'm looking to go beyond some of the straight SEO conferences and get out of the same group of people that I see so often (even though you are great people!). Time to head over to the other thread. :)
Probably Pubcon Vegas or Mozcon
SearchLove. It was the first conference I ever attended and despite going to many others it still remains the best one for speaker quality and the value of takeaways.Although I'd also grab a free ticket for everything organised by Kelvin Newman, Gus Ferguson and Jo Turnbull, amongst some of the great UK Meetups. After all who doesn't love a freebie?
haha agreed Mike, everyone loves freebies! Have you been to Search Marketing Expo by Search Engine Land? Theres a chance to win a free 1 Day pass to SMXEast going on at eyeflow.com/giveaway
Don't forget that location plays a huge role in traveling conferences like SES. Your fellow attendees will be very different at SES SF vs SES NY. Sure, there is overlap, but lots of differences. For time reasons, I'm only attending one conference this year, and it is Digital East outside DC. Anyone been there?
If you're in the UK you could save some dosh and attend Brighton SEO, tickets are free (though usually oversubscribed within minutes)...
Search Marketing Expo definitely, although I have yet to visit MozCon.
I find SearcLove to be the best so far. I mean Mozcon is awesome but there's something about SearchLove that Mozcon doesn't have. Not sure what it is though… :)
