I now know who is Gigi :)
I agree with Mike's dream - as a community we are somewhat divided regarding the target market. The industry, personalities, and tactics are by and large misunderstood and under-represented outside our vertical.. I thought about teaching resources; but, it would have to be a non-monetary collaborative effort I think. In another inbound comment, I suggested addressing charities as a community to alter outside perception.. Misconception is a standing issue.. and we're likely to be considered an 'unknown' entity in the eyes of many people we can help. It the 'outside perception' really bothers us, then 'we' need to change it. The mass media isn't going to do it for us obviously... That being said, really good article.
As fast as I can remember I have been always looked down upon for the things others did. "SEO" was always a dirty word no matter how clean you worked. It's getting better these days. You can't say "SEO is bullshit" by now without looking like a jerk. That's why they say "Internet marketing is a scam". It's such a broad term you can fit in everything in it. You could even say the Internet is a scam, after all these scams were done online. All the issues listed in this article just show that the internet marketing industry doe s not have a proper lobby to spread the word about what's really going on.
