Lots of good stuff and insights here! Could have used more in-house folks (are there *only* agency/services SEOs out there?), but there are a ton of actionable takeaways here. +1!
Thanks a lot Jonathon. I have already gotten some great ideas for a follow up post, and would love to include you if you, especially since REI is one of my all time favorite websites!
Nice one Nick for putting this all together. Sounds like the Philly scene is where it's at!
I guess you will just have to come visit and find out; you would have a blast at our SEO Happy Hours.
I'd still take the social atmosphere anywhere in the UK any day! Thanks man!
This is the type of post we need more of. Pooled intelligence in a single post. Different perspectives. A serious lack of bullcrap.
Thanks so much Joel! I didn't realize I'd be competing against your anti-hero post or I may have waited a day... that piece is my favorite of 2012 so far.
I'm just pleased that two articles came out today with no input from me that managed to gain me links and traffic ;)
Much deserved to say the least
I did not expect to be up there next to some of the industry's heavy hitters, many of whom I follow non-stop. A proud moment for me, for sure. Great job, Nick.
Without sounding patronising you didn't look out of place dude. Good work :)
I completely agree with Sean, you've got a good grasp on what's really important - you're climb to the top is inevitable :)
I share Chris' sentiments. It's nice to be mentioned with the big guns. Every time we meet, Chris and everyone has a lot to offer and share. It's definitely a great SEO community in Philly. I learn something every time I see these guys.
See, now I need a tissue. Damn you!
Like Chris and Mark, I am honored to be a part of the madness that is Philly SEO and, more specifically, this post. If any of you guys are ever in Philly, do yourself a favor and come hang out. You are (north)bound to be inspired and learn tons of great tricks. Also, at least 3 of the 12 participants in this study are "recorded" rappers, so...
Philly SEO's stand up! Nice post Nick. Embarrassed at my absence at the last couple of Grail meetings. Hope you guys are well! PS Ian and Bill had me dying talking about SEO rockstars. "Walk softly but carry a big stick" -TR
Thanks Devon. It's crazy the SEO incubator that Philly is turning into - I think a big part of it has to do with the large amount of agencies that call the Philly-area home. Between the exploding Philly Tech community and the strides the city is finally making to make this a more attractive place for start-ups, I think there is only more to come. You definitely missed an amazing Grail last night, but hopefully if enough of us get on you about it we'll see you at the next one.
Just curious, are there not any great female SEOs in Philly?
Yes, although I think SEER Interactive has scooped up most of them, otherwise I have not had the pleasure of making their acquaintance or they have been avoiding the SEO Grail Meet-ups...
I can speak for the Razorfish team in Philly which has or had a lot of great female SEOs. Fajr Muhammad and Christine Hintze over at Razorfish two of the illest SEO copywriters in the game. Fajr is also a fashion blogger http://www.stylishthought.com. Olga Mamontov is one of the best pharma SEOs. Jenny Popov and Julie Kontes are great account managers. Jenny Du who went to TPG Direct from RF is also one of the greats. There's plenty of great female SEOs on the agency side in Philly.
