That is a lot more evil than I was expecting. Tricking people is one thing, posing as official organizations to get FTP details, build links, etc. is way over the top. Good tactics to warn yourself against, but I really hope no serious marketers are investing in these - would make me ashamed to be in the same industry.

I know many of these tactics were written with a Tongue-in-cheek. But what is being discussed is almost on a par with the GoDaddy Website Tonight link building that Yoast called out at the end of last year.

Yes. Over the last couple of weeks there has been an overlap between blackhat SEO and hacking. That really doesnt do anything good for the SEO industry's reputation...

Props to Peter - these are great. I'd obviously never do them, but as a link builder, it's always fun to hear crazy scummy strategies like these.

Some of this stuff is damn smart, although obviously unethical as some have said. Nice post.

Peter has quite obviously written this tongue in cheek >>> "In all seriousness though, I think it’s important to know dark side strategies not for promotion, but so that you know how to protect yourself from it." I'll add it to unbound next time.

It's like with everything in life. People who can't get it the legit way have to lie, cheat, steal. I'm not that hungry.

I didn't write this with intention of people actually using these methods. Like I stated in the post, it's more so people aren't oblivious to black hat methods.
