It's funny, I had a post idea around this idea but Bill Sebald beat me to it. I find little real use of the x number of tips list posts. Oh, they probably do well but it's often because of the perceived value and not the real value. (Though perception is reality eh?) Too often we think more is better. So getting 96 tips must be hugely valuable right? And if you've read my latest post you know something else. Very few of those tips are actually read. People aren't going to read all of them so they scan and maybe they think a few are good. But how many are really digested? I suppose you could argue that this shotgun method ensures that some of the tips are found. That users will simply cherry pick out the ones that matter to them. But that's a lot of work really and the Paradox of Choice (yeah, I'm kind of a broken record about it) probably kicks in and people decide just not to engage at all. It gets sent to some sort of read-it-later hell where it collects dust until it is ultimately deleted. So your long 'list of' posts might actually get you kudos but I think it is often a 'I should think this is awesome so I'll say it is awesome' type of reaction. Maybe that's okay with you, but it's not for me.
Awesome comment. Thanks for submitting my article, and thanks for the great title. I'm wishing I used your title instead of mine.
