That's exactly what Google wants business owners to believe, that SEO doesn't work anymore so they buy Google ads instead. Just watch the things Google did to hamper SEO efforts this year: - not provided - enabling negative SEO - monopolizing above the fold SERPs with paid inclusion/ads etc.
