Another awesome post by HigherClick. Great work nick!
Seriously? Isn't this talking about exactly what ProBlogger was talking about not doing?
Well not really John. 1- you don't hit people that don't want to be hit (IE you find people that already linked) 2- yes you use very light templates but most of it is custom and based on your initial research 3- OFC you should "give a shit" (as we say in the office) about the people and the industry, it doesn't mean you can't have a method about it. This is not the opposite, it's about getting your work done (IE getting links for your clients) while respecting bloggers and their time. Making sure they are willing to link out (if you provide value) and you get to know them (which is why there is pretty much no template).
Yeah, I still think this post is approaching it wrong. You're starting from a keyword perspective, not a user or value perspective. Honestly, it shouldn't matter where the link is from as long as it's basically editorially given (I consider links in guest posts to be editorially given, because they are relevant and add value). I think we need to START with point 3. You care, you build a relationship, you ask well. This eliminates the need for a template and mass emailing.
I see your point and it's valid. The chosen term Keyword here may be wrong but it's been used by many others including rand before when it comes to looking for "relevant sites in the niche". So this is not really keywords you're trying to rank for but more keywords you use to find relevant sites with say advanced queries or on directories like alltop where you need to type queries to find relevant sites (and hence you keywords). However, we do not necessarily care about the site having strong rankings for a given keyword. It's more of a relevancy thing. However, I understand that can be misinterpreted. Thanks for the feedback.
