An interesting approach, similar to how LinkedIn shows you who's looked at your profile. How do you feel about this? Invasion of privacy? Radical transparency? You make the call!

Perhaps they should have an opt in. I think that's the part that's weird. Otherwise as an SEO I'm excited to have the data ;-)

Fortunately, there's a way to opt out if folks want to. Head over to Settings >> Views and then turn it to No. Personally, I'm going to leave it turned on for now and see how this plays out. If it makes the person who wrote the answer feel better then I'm all for it. I'm just looking at SEO, Oakland, and dog stuff anyway :).

Ha! I thought I was the only one who looked at dog stuff on Quora. Thanks for posting the opt-out process, Phil!

Just another reason not to use Quora.

Wonder how many fake accounts there will be to look at answers in... sensitive areas.

  • Stuart McHenry   Aug 01 2012   Flag

I think it's an invasion of privacy myself... not to mention kinda creepy.

  • Jonathon Colman   Aug 02 2012   Flag

Yes, and... LinkedIn does the same thing to a certain extent. I often get around this by looking at the Google cache for a candidate's profile rather than click through directly on LinkedIn. But I also admire the transparency. If an author/expert on Quora has gone to the trouble of writing a long, detailed response to something, I think they deserve to know that particular folks read it and (hopefully) benefited from their work.

I agree, it's hard to decide invasion of privacy or radical transparency Jon. But not sure if I want people knowing I follow Glee, haha j/p

  • Jonathon Colman   Aug 02 2012   Flag

Ha, I like Glee, too, Ann. I'm more worried about what happens when I look at threads/solutions to particular tech/marketing problems. Does that tee off my savvy competitors?

Only use Quora for content ideas currently - it will be great to judge how interested people are in each question so I can know which to turn into some badass content ;)
