interesting one although the details are a little scant. Which email was used to access the linkedin account? A personal one or a company one?
I came across this debated in a 2009 blog post by an author of several Linkedin networking titles: http://windmillnetworking.com/2009/05/25/my-linkedin-profile-does-my-employer-own-it/
The article links to a full legal document - http://digitalcommons.law.scu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1153&context=historical They logged into her LinkedIn account and locked her out, then changed the profile name/photo to the new CEO's. They left all recommendations and history etc... as it was (which is just weird if you ask me). Would be interesting to hear of any other cases on other social networks (certainly for Googe+, as Google are very clear about wanting it to represent the individual)
