You're kidding me... The author got 37 links after a month, spent $800, and is complaining! Those are the most white-hat, editorial links you can acquire. I'm stunned to see the complaint of $22/link being "too expensive." The branding and traffic value alone is exceptional, nevermind the potential SEO boost (though the author claims to have not seen specific rankings go up).

To each there own... I guess I do not read this as a "complaint" as much as I read it as a review from someone who has used the service who ultimately was unhappy with the results. The author obviously states that the service didn't work well for him. Transparent reviews that are good or bad are needed to help educate people on the possible outcomes. Personally, for ~$500 a month, I could think of better ways to invest a clients budget if their yields were similar. That being said, I am sure there are niches that yield much better results than others. The case study Zemanta shares on their website is for a company in the fashion industry. There are tons of people blogging fashion so obviously they would have a better experience than most. On the other end, if you are in a "boring niche" or industry, Zemanta might now be for you.

Mike is right. Plus I didn't get any referring traffic from the links. Branding? Doubtful it was "exceptional". I said, "Our topic surely played into the lack of chosen links..." Note that nowhere did I say this was a valueless program; only that it didn't fit me. My experience was nothing for nearly $1k, vs. some other avenues where I got "white-hat, editorial links" for a lower cost or a little elbow grease. So yes, that was "too expensive." I definitely think others should test it.

We have tried Zemanta and its working ok at this moment. It depends on what vertical you are in and at this stage we are looking at around $20/link as well which an editorial link so not bad investment so far.

We appreciate the review. Disclosure, I head up sales/bd for Zemanta. @Michael, you are correct, not all content is the same. Certain content will resonate with our bloggers over others. We set expectations before beginning a campaign so the client understands how our bloggers will respond to his/her content. We also give feedback to our clients on what content is being shared by Zemanta bloggers, so that you can focus future content creation on those topics. If we did not meet your expectations, let us know and we will make it right. Thanks Greg Gortz greg@zemanta.com

2 months, Rand. And yes, no boost. I am not kidding you.
