Ahrefs came out on top in my own comparison when compared with the likes of seomoz/majestic http://www.matthewwoodward.co.uk/experiments/backlink-checkers-compared-ahrefs-majestic-seo-seomoz-raven-tools-seo-spyglass/
I think they all have their strengths. I too like Ahrehs but there API needs more.
