Be sure to dig in and look at the Labs section. They just added Authorship stats to that section, and most of the tools have lived there at some point before being fully integrated.
Love authorship stats... and also index status is really useful, particularly if you go to the advanced tab where you can see not just how many pages are indexed, but how many Google has chosen not to index. Nifty for troubleshooting when you think you might have content woes! Still amazes me that there are business out there reliant on Google organic traffic and NOT using Webmaster Tools.
Authorship stats can provide some interesting stuff. It is related to you as an author and not a specific domain, so you can see stats on how your articles on all websites are performing, even if you do not have WMT access to those domains.
New pages crawled per day under crawl stats is awesome. Great way to see how frequently and deep Googlebot is crawling your site on a daily basis.
Why don't more people use "Fetch as Googlebot" just to make sure the page can at least be fetched?
I have been downloading my data on a monthly basis and using it so I can get a solid understanding of branded / non-branded keyword unknown factor has taken over my analytics. I am also finding Google WMT becoming more and more the decision maker for new content based on impressions for keywords that are relevant to the site.
